New Berlin Man Charged After Stealing Jewelry From Waukesha Couple

Suspect stole more than $5,500 in jewelry from a Waukesha home after he and another man were hired to paint it, according to criminal complaint.

A New Berlin man is facing charges alleging he stole jewelry and a piggy bank after he and another man were hired to paint a Waukesha house.

Kyle S. Menger, 23, was charged in Waukesha County Circuit Court on Monday with one count of theft of more than $5,000. If convicted, he faces up to six years in prison and $10,000 in fines.

According to the criminal complaint:

In September, a Waukesha couple living in the 800 block of University Drive contacted police after they were unsatisfied with the job two men hired to paint their house were doing. They said they were unhappy with the work and upset with the liberties the men had been taking by eating their food and watching their television.

The couple decided to check their jewelry and discovered a $5,500 bracelet was missing along with a piggy bank containing $140.

Menger told police he stole the bracelet along with several other jewelry items and sold them to buy heroin. He denied taking the bank but was doubtful the other painter had taken it.

He’s currently being held in Waukesha County Jail on a $2,500 signature bond.
