National Tea Party Group Backs Mark Neumann in Wisconsin Senate Race

Tea Party Express Chairman Amy Kremer says her organization will devote time and money to helping Neumann win the Aug. 14 GOP primary.

The Tea Party Express plans to put some of its resources and political muscle into Wisconsin in the coming days to support candidate Mark Neumann in the Republican primary for the open U.S. Senate seat.

Amy Kremer, chairman of the group, which is the nation’s largest tea party political action committee, made a trip to Wisconsin Friday to formally endorse Neumann at campaign stops in Milwaukee, Green Bay and Madison.

At the Milwaukee County War Memorial stop Friday morning, Kremer said Neumann has proven he "will fight for what's right and stand on principle" and he understands what she calls the "problems" in Washington.

"We believe that he is the true conservative that can win this seat and go to Washington to represent the people," Kremer said, with a statue of Abraham Lincoln looking down behind her. "He's going to protect our Constitutional freedoms and liberties. ... Washington is the problem, not the answer."

This endorsement comes after a recent poll that shows Neumann, a businessman and former congressman, catching up to former Gov. Tommy Thompson and businessman Eric Hovde, who also has some Tea Party support in the state, in the Aug. 14 primary race.

Kremer dismissed the suggestion that the Tea Party Express might be better off supporting Thompson or Hovde, who have generally polled better than Neumann throughout the race.

"A poll is just a snapshot in time," she said. "It's not money or a poll that wins elections, it's people on the ground, the heart and soul of America ... that will go out and work for it."

"This is another third-party verification that folks all over the country and all over the state of Wisconsin are coming home to the proven conservative in this race," Neumann said.

"We believe that he is the true conservative that can win this seat and go to Washington to represent the people."

The Tea Party Express is turning to Wisconsin after it helped Texas GOP Senate nominee and Tea Party favorite Ted Cruz deliver a blowing defeat to Lt. Gov. David Dewhurst, who was supported by Rick Perry, in Tuesday's primary runoff there.

There was no direct mention of the other Wisconsin candidates on Friday morning. Kremer did acknowledge there are other conservatives in the race, and she does not mean to "bash" them, but she called Neumann the best choice.

Kremer said the Tea Party Express will jump in next week and devote monetary resources to this race and produce ads supporting Neumann, in a race that has already been crowded with attacks and counterattacks. She did not disclose how much would be spent.

In addition, the group is planning a three-day bus tour in Wisconsin next week in support of Neumann.

The group has organized rallies throughout the country that have featured speakers such as Sarah Palin, Joe the Plumber, Michelle Bachmann and Ann Coulter. It visited Wisconsin prior to the June 5 recall elections and in 2011 to support the Republican senators targeted for recalls.

The winner in the Aug. 14 primary will go on to face Democratic candidate Tammy Baldwin in November.

Oh joy. More out-of-state folks coming in to try to influence a state election.

Funny how this didn't seem to bother you one bit:

No fair bringing truth into the discussion. The left just hates the truth; almost as much as they hate using their own tactics against them. Note to left; your 20% will never out pace or out spend our 40% majority now that we are awake.

I don't care if they brought in the Pope to support Neumann. He's lost two state wide races and everyone knows what he's all about. It's just not going to happen with Neumann.

I guess I wouldn't have expected anything different from a Jewish guy. Is there anything that the Pope's support would sway you toward favoring?

@CowDung...Of course! If the Pope came out in favor of contraception, pregnancy termination, allowing priests to marry and women priests.

...but aren't you already in favor of those things? I'm looking for things that his position would influence you toward becoming a supporter...

So if conservative leaders abandon all principals and tradition in favor of leftist ideas, you will find reason to support them. Really, you won't attack them for having no principals and bowing to political pressure? Leaders lead. I actually wish the left had some, it might add to the debate. But name calling and calls to abandon all ideals are not helpful.

Neumann is unlikely going to win the nomination. He would beat Baldwin I think . But this looks like Thompson vs Hovde. Neumann and Fitzgerald simply havent had traction and time is running pretty short to impact votes.

Don't count Newmann out, he is the only candidate with a solid fiscal plan and has proven to buck even his own party members if they want him to vote on something that is contrary to what we sent him there to do. Do we want a person that is going to follow or to lead? I support Newmann the Leader in this race.

I don't count anyone out ......but if I am handicapping the race I don't think he would be my bet. He is not leading he is behind and has ground to make up . The endorsement helps him . The time factor works against him . Little time to change minds as voters likely are more focused on the more media driven front runners of Thompson who is well known state wide and Hovde who has had the better media ads to become known . I think it is a 2 horse race and Neumann is the 3rd pony. But that's just my handicap.

This is overkill, as Neumann has proven time after time that he's perfectly capable of losing on his own.

I would never, ever support Neumann again. He is not a smart campaigner. He should have beat Feingold but ran a weak campaign, and played by the rules while Mr. Campaign Finance St. Feingold showed how sincere he was about money and winning. Neumann's adds are so sappy they make me want to puke. All the candidates would be good Senators but Neumann has shown everyone he will stab anyone in the back. He is the Republican version of Tom Barrett and will run for everything and lose every time. "One of the reasons I went to church every Sun was a pretty gal named Sue." Oh pleeeeezzzzz stop! Go away Mark.

Neumann? Who cares. Just another gas bag who will be restricted by the same rules and regs as all the guys who aren't getting the job done now.

Those who bet against the support of the Tea Party do so at their own risk. The Taxed Enough Already crowd is changing the landscape of conservative politics. Look around what is happening nationwide to old-guard Republicans. Thompson represents the old guard. Neumann is the logical choice and will make a great Senator.

I agree. I would not vote for Stick it to 'em Tommie boy (unless he is the only choice against Baldwin). I liked Hovde at first but the more I know about him, the less I like. Neumann seems to be the only one capable of doing the job properly.
