Update: Veteran's Life Saved By Citizens, Waukesha Fire Department
Sherri Stigler started CPR on man after heart stopped late Monday morning.
The Memorial Day service following the parade through downtown Waukesha got off to a late start as paramedics began working on a man whose heart had stopped prior to the service at Cutler Park.
Sherri Stigler, wife of Deputy Police Chief Mark Stigler, performed CPR on the older-looking man who was wearing a dress uniform for about four minutes before the paramedics took over, according to the deputy police chief. Another citizen also jumped in to help, according to the Stigler family.
Paramedics from the Waukesha Fire Department took the man to the hospital before the Memorial Day service began.
The deputy chief credited the fire department for its professional, rapid response to the scene to join in the life-saving efforts.
"This community should be grateful and proud that so many concerned citizens, including Mrs. Stigler, jumped in to help this honored veteran in his time of need," Stigler said. "It was truly a team effort by many involved. ... I know that if I were ever in need that all of those professionals – from the dispatchers to the first responding EMTs and paramedics – would do their best to save my life as well. Hats off to our dispatchers, firefighters, EMTs and paramedics."

I was chatting small talk with Deputy Chief Stigler when a citizen approached notifying him of someone in distress. Stigler jumped into action making an emergency phone call, then alerting his wife who noticed lack of a heartbeat in the victim. She began CPR until reinforcements arrived. Hats off to the Stiglers. I'm proud to know them.

Thank you Patch for the follow up of the man that was taken to the hospital on Memorial Day. My family and I were standing a short distance behind the man that had collapsed. To myself it was a scary moment, but the officers of the Waukesha police and fire departments were quick to do their jobs well! This man has been in my thoughts and prayers and I am glad to know that his life was saved by these well trained individuals. Thank You!
