Lt. Gov. Rebecca Kleefisch Thankful for Tea Party Express' Endorsement

The lieutenant governor, who faces a recall election in about two weeks, stood shoulder to shoulder with Amy Kremer, Chairman of the Tea Party Express, at a press conference Monday, May 21.

The national Tea Party Express has been a prominent player on the Wisconsin recall scene for nearly a year, and on Monday, it promised to remain one until Election Day.

In a joint press conference in Milwaukee, Amy Kremer, chairman of the Tea Party Express, publicly endorsed Lt. Gov. Rebecca Kleefisch, who is facing a challenge from Democrat Mahlon Mitchell in the June 5 recall election.

“I want people around the country to know the accomplishments of the lieutenant governor and how she has been a strong conservative supporter for Governor (Scott) Walker and stood behind him,” Kremer said, as Kleefisch stood by her side. “They have been working hand in hand to make sure (good) things happen for the citizens of Wisconsin.”

Kremer said the Tea Party Express will be in Wisconsin on June 1 for a bus tour through the state. She said it is not uncommon for the group, the largest and one of the most prominent tea party organizations in the nation, to endorse candidates at a federal level, but said Wisconsin is a special case.

“This is, we believe, ground zero heading into going into November’s general election,” Kremer said. “People across the country are paying attention … We’ve been focused on what’s happening here.”

Tea party groups nationwide have been involved with the Wisconsin recalls for some time. In January, Wisconsin Grandsons of Liberty and We The People of the Republic recruited nearly 10,000 volunteers to scour over signed recall petitions to scrutinize the validity of signatures.

Another tea party group, The Campaign to Defeat Barack Obama, has been sending out emails regularly in an effort to raise money to help fight the Walker recall.

And last August, when six Republican state senators faced recall opposition, the Tea Party Express held several rallies around the state. At a Thiensville rally in the 8th Senate District, where incumbent Sen. Alberta Darling was being challenged by Democratic state Rep. Sandy Pasch, several hundred supporters came out, though Darling herself did not make an appearance.

Kleefisch, however, eagerly accepted the endorsement from Kremer and the tea party with a little more than two weeks before the election. She said she spoke at her first tea party event four years ago, believes in the movement and continues to support the tea party’s direction and beliefs.

“I wanted to make sure people understand how grateful I am for this endorsement and recognition, not just that I stand shoulder to shoulder with those who seek to preserve the liberties and freedoms that we have in this country but also those who understand that our governor needs his best partner in the lieutenant governor’s office,” Kleefisch said.

Kleefisch said as lieutenant governor she has served the role of jobs ambassador, leading several small business roundtable discussions on how to improve the business atmosphere in the state. She said she has approached out-of-state businesses about coming to Wisconsin, and has spent time working on improving workforce development and matching up unemployed workers with open jobs.

The Tea Party Express’ endorsement was met with criticism from Mitchell’s camp, where Kleefisch was accused of relying on “out-of-state right-wing radicals.”

“I am proud to have the support of police officers, firefighters, teachers, nurses, electricians, and other middle class men and women throughout Wisconsin,” Mitchell said in a news release. “We need to bring Wisconsin back together. Middle class families cannot afford the Walker-Kleefisch Tea Party agenda that is dividing our state.”

Kremer said Kleefisch needs the support and help from “people across the country and people in Wisconsin,” and that the recalls are frivolous and a waste of taxpayers’ money. She said Kleefisch and Walker should be lauded, not recalled.

“Washington and Wisconsin are very similar, except that Wisconsin is on the right path and Washington is on the wrong path. We actually think Washington could take a lot of lessons from Lieutenant Governor Kleefisch and Governor Walker," Kremer said.

"When you look at what’s going on in Washington, where the Senate had not passed a budget in over three years and the only answer is to tax and spend and tax and spend and tax and spend some more, it doesn’t work," she added. "You compare that to what happened here in Wisconsin when the governor and lieutenant governor took office, a budget was passed right away and they closed that $3.6 billion deficit.”

This woman is a cipher as Lt. Governor. Her predecessor was a remarkable champion for our state. This one poses for photo ops, takes credit for landing an Illinois company's move to Wisconsin when they were already doing so, goes on cable TV to defend ALEC, the special interest group that 13 mega-corporations backed away from because of its extremist agenda. It's no surprise that the extreme right fringe embraces her.

Between Kleefisch and Walker, however, she does have the superior credentials, an undergraduate degree. Of course, her predecessor has her Master's.

The 13 mega-corporations that backed away was due mainly to the bad press associated with the Trevon Martin case and now everyone that jumped on that band wagon, including Obama, may be proven wrong.
Gotta love an education snob, Brendan.

Actually, Walker is in good company. Neither Gates nor Jobs finished their undergrad program either. Both changed the world. Walker will go down in history as being the Governor that changed (saved) the world (WI and the USA) as well. That's quite an accomplishment, and even you, Bren, could learn something if you ever took your blinders off. I won't hold my breath.

Greg, the issue the corporations had was with ALEC's authoring of bills such as Stand Your Ground and castle doctrine, which have caused additional deaths in states where these laws have been passed (In Wisconsin, Bo Morrison), are controversial, and have nothing to do with improving profitability.

As I've written before, there are many fields where experience can replace a college degree. But we want our doctors, attorneys, dentists, accountants, etc., to have specific qualifications. A political figure responsible for budgeting, laws, and regulations, should have a strong understanding of law if not a law degree. Scott Walker has neither.

Nuitari, Barbara Lawton was by no means "worthless" as Lt. Governor. I would prefer Ms. Kleefisch to earn the generous salary paid by we the taxpayers, especially when 200,000+ public employees received a new round of cuts from Walker (in addition to the 16 furlough days from Doyle). Since she is not productive, she should be recalled.

Gear, you cannot compare the intellectual heft of Gates or Jobs with Walker.

The big difference between Rebecca Kleefisch and her predecessor Barbara Lawton is that Kleefisch may one day be elected governor. Kleefisch has real world experience running her own business and as Lieutenant Governor has been the state's liaison to the small business community hosting over 25 small business roundtables and cold-calling Illinois businesses to relocate to Wisconsin. As part of her efforts to promote economic growth Kleefisch chaired the subcabinet on workforce investment that developed the Wisconsin Working Plan.

Barbara Lawton built on her Master's degree in Spanish by being active in the community and helped found the Green Bay Area Multicultural Center. As Lieutenant Governor she appeared before friendly groups to encourage greater public investment in the arts, women's issues and the environment.

In 8 years as Lieutenant Governor she did not chair one committee having anything to do with economic development or job creation. Lawton's only experience with fiscal matters was being part of a Doyle administration that raised taxes and fees by over $3 billion in 2009. Knowing she was a tax and spend dinosaur with zero credibility on jobs or the economy Lawton was forced to abruptly end her run for governor in 2010.

No cipher, this is Bambi vs Godzilla.

Bren, the tragic shooting of Bo Morrison had nothing to do with the state's new Castle Doctrine law and would be justifiable self-defense under Wisconsin's prior law also.

As it turns out, breaking into someone's house at 1:00 AM to hide from the police because your BAC is twice the legal limit is still a bad idea; homeowners should not be held liable in civil court for this kind of incredibly poor judgment.

"Under a reasonable view of the evidence the homeowner acted reasonably in his use of force based on the facts and circumstances," county District Attorney Mark Bensen said.

Adam, look more closely at Ms. Lawton's experience as an international business consultant, where she worked with companies to bring goods to southern South America. She and her family also lived for a time in Mexico. She has an international expertise that Ms. Kleefisch does not.

Bo Morrison, 20 years old, was shot hiding on Adam Kind's enclosed porch, according to the reports I read. Most recent: http://fox6now.com/2012/05/05/photos-of-bo-morrison-crime-scene-released/

Bren AKA Education Snob, you have so much to learn. Does the CEO of GM need to know how to tune a motor? NO. He has people for that. Does he need to be a lawyer? Nope again. He has people for that. Does he need vision and ideas? Probably. Barrett is a lawyer, but lacks any original thought. He is a mere tool in a popularity contest. He'll tell you anything you want to hear. Greg, these are all your opinions and you are welcome to them. In the real world, when budget cuts are necessary they are structured in a way that causes least negative impact on the organization (where possible). A county or state is not a business, more comparably a service organization. The Susan G. Komen Foundation suffered a PR nightmare because of the unfortunate hire of a right wing radical who lost her political campaign then decided to impose her Someone Else's Morality positions on Foundation granting practices. The backlash from the public was polarizing and drew national attention. What Scott Walker has done in the State of Wisconsin isn't too dissimilar, except that he turned on his employees in the process.

Barrett has excellent ideas, by the way; the Menomonee Valley rejuvenation is taking place under his watch, in comparison to the Park East Corridor, a county redevelopment project which until recently was the responsibility of former County Executive Scott Walker.

I really hope that Walker et al. are smart enough to know that MANY of us are voting for them based on economic factors and have NO interest in the Tea Party social objectives. We want "small government" --i.e. lower taxation. "Big government" is when they involve themselves in personal issues -- anti-choice, anti-gay marriage policies, etc. Most of us that are voting for you people want SMALL government and lower taxes and a better economy.

Let's stick with the economy and common sense issues (i.e. requiring voter ID in this century when you need it for everything else is a no-brainer!)!

I would maintain that Democrats have a better grasp on fiscal reality than the radical right fringe, yes. I definitely separate the fringe from the true conservative.

Bewildered, Greg, if this comment, "Mr. Fischer, did you really just say..." is directed at me, that is not my name. Empowerment of people means precisely that. It means programs that help people up the ladder, not stomp on their hands. Consider the driving mission of the conservative Bradley Foundation,

"Steadfastly adhering to the Bradley brothers’ donor intent, the Bradley Foundation remains dedicated to its mission strengthening the institutions, principles, and values that nurture and sustain the American Experiment and the West. Among other things, our programs support limited, competent government and a dynamic marketplace for economic, intellectual, and cultural activity. We also recognize that responsible self-government depends on enlightened citizens."

The terms to consider here are, "competent," "dynamic," "intellectual," "cultural," "responsible," "enlightened." They hardly reflect the regressive policies of the right-wing fringe.

Some may not agree with Roe v. Wade, but the majority of Americans do. As to hand-outs, which are more egregious; allowing people to scrape by or handing taxpayer dollars to AIG.

Scott Walker is an ALEC puppet and opportunist. I place him firmly in the "radical" column. In addition, having witnessed some of his budgeting follies as County Executive, I could not support him for higher political office. I do not support ALEC, their radical agenda, or their puppet governor, Scott Walker.

Let's not blame Obama for an economic situation he did not create. The Great Recession was about 15 years in the making, and greatly accelerated during the Bush administration because of two unfunded wars, tax "refunds" with money loaned from Communist China, and corporate tax refunds that diminished the Treasury. Let's keep it real.

Johnny, the Founding Fathers were considered radicals by the King's Men and the British, certainly. ; ) But their purpose was to create a government free of tyranny, not to impose Someone Else's Morality or a plutocracy.

Again, remember what Obama inherited from George W. Bush, a baseline of record deficit and a worldwide recession. Because of that spending, potentially millions of U.S. jobs were saved (the automotive industry bailouts are estimated to have saved about 1 million jobs alone) and the economy, once on the brink of collapse, is now slowly on the mend. It's illogical to compare Obama's recovery initiatives to the profligate spending spree of his predecessor. Let's keep it real.

But compared to Obama’s $5 BILLION of deficit spending per day? Obama spent well over three times more per day every single day than did Bush.

I only got what I've been told...
In 2008, Obama said adding $4 trillion to the debt was “unpatriotic.” He’s increased it more than $4.5 trillion and is on track to add trillions more.

Obama promised to cut the deficit in half by the end of his first term. Instead, he racked up three record deficits of more than $1 trillion each.

And then there’s the biggest promise of them all: the economy. Barack Obama was so confident he could turn around the economy that he promised in early 2009 that if he didn’t have it fixed in “three years” then his presidency would “be a one-term proposition.”

What could we possibly enjoy?

Oh Bren, there you go again.

Pls show where I "suspend believe about the financial crisis" . All I have to do is look at my 401k and portfolio, and watch the market the past week or so, to know we are in deep trouble. Your are correct tho, I have suspended my believe in the current admin's initiatives. I am feed up with Obama's attempt to tax and spend out of the recession. TARP sure worked well. Lowered unemployment below 8% as promised, didnt it? At least I'm now a owner of Government Motors.

No denying our fiscal problems go back years, but to keep blaming them on past administrations when Obama's been in office 4 years (first two with both House and Senate control) and unable to do anything to improve the economy is absurd (just look at ObamaCare. Anyone remember that?). Take some ownership Dems. You should be ashamed you've massively increased the debt while putting off the ramifications on our kids. Shame ! Shame !

MADISON—State-local governments collected $25.9 billion in taxes and fees in fiscal year 2011, 5.4% more than in 2010. This year’s tax burden was the highest since 2006, reflecting 2009-10 tax increases and a modest economic recovery. These findings are from a new Wisconsin Taxpayers Alliance (WISTAX) report, “Postrecession Snapshot: Total Taxes in 2011.” WISTAX is a nonprofit, nonpartisan organization dedicated to public policy research and citizen education.

State-local taxes claimed 11.9% of total state personal income in 2011, up from 11.7% the prior year and 11.3% in recession-plagued 2009. Because tax collections following a recession tend to rebound faster than personal income, tax burdens often rise early in a recovery.

Higher tax collections in 2011 were largely driven by increases in individual income and property taxes—the two largest state-local taxes. Individual income tax revenues rose 10%, from $6.1 billion in 2010 to $6.7 billion in 2011, partly due to the recovery but also to tax increases. Those increases included a new tax bracket for the state’s highest earners and a reduction in the capital gains exclusion included in the 2009-11 state budget....
