Gov. Walker Issues Proclamation for Waukesha Man

Mike Crowley will be riding to help find a cure for juvenile diabetes on Aug. 13.

A Waukesha man is receiving attention from Gov. Scott Walker for his commitment to finding a cure for juvenile diabetes.

Mike Crowley will participating in the second annual Ride to Cure Diabetes on Aug. 13 in the La Crosse area. Crowley is soliciting donations for the 100-mile bike ride, with the funds going toward research for juvenile diabetes.

Crowley’s son, Andy, was diagnosed with Type 1 diabetes at age 2. Andy, now going into his sophomore year at Waukesha North High School, continues to battle the disease with insulin and watching what he eats.

This is the proclamation issued by Walker on July 22:

WHEREAS; Mike Crowley of Waukesha will be riding his bicycle in the second annual Ride to Cure Diabetes, sponsored by the Juvenile Diabetes Research Foundation, on Saturday, Aug. 13, 2011; and

WHEREAS; Mike Crowley’s son has Type 1 diabetes and Mike will be riding 100 miles in Wisconsin, Minnesota and Iowa, including two crossings of the Mississippi River, to help raise funds for diabetes research and, ultimately, to find a cure for the disease, which affects thousands of people in Wisconsin; and

WHEREAS; Type 1 diabetes is a chronic, debilitating, long-life disease that, even with treatment, can lead to heart disease, kidney disease, blindness and nerve complications; and

WHEREAS; Mike Crowley has been training since May, and his goals were to log 1,000 miles by the day of the ride and, with 400 other riders, to raise more than $1 million for the cause;

NOW, THEREFORE, I, Scott Walker, Governor of the State of Wisconsin, do hereby proclaim Saturday, August 13, 2011, as

MIKE CROWLEY – RIDE TO CURE DIABETES DAY throughout the State of Wisconsin and I commend this observance to all of our citizens.
