Gov. Walker: Cherish Family This Holiday Season

Gov. Scott Walker delivers a Christmas message for this week's radio address.

Each week, Gov. Scott Walker delivers a weekly radio address. The following is the transcript from his address on Thursday, titled Holiday Message.

Hi, I’m Scott Walker.

My wife Tonette and I would like to take a moment to wish you and your loved ones peace and happiness this holiday season.  As we get ready to celebrate Christmas with our sons, Matt and Alex, we pray for a new year filled with faith, hope, and prosperity.

This joyful season can be a time to remember as well as a time to hope for the future.  It is also a time to be grateful for the past year and for our loved ones.

We hope that in the midst of the hustle and bustle, and in light of the recent tragedy, everyone will take the opportunity to cherish the family around them.  We would like to thank all of our service members who are away from their families this Christmas season.  We hope that in the next year, you will be home with your families.

Wishing you peace and joy, from our family to yours.

The state partnered with the Wisconsin Broadcasters Association to produce and distribute brief radio address once a week.  Audio files and a written transcript of this radio address can be accessed on http://www.wi-broadcasters.org and http://walker.wi.gov/Weekly-Radio-Addresses.  To download an mp3 file, you can right click the radio address link and click “save link as.”

It's just not that easy for me to shrug off. How many Americans died this year because our underfunded social programs let them down and special interests and pandering politicians influence laws that allow sick people to arm themselves with weapons that cut children and adults down like mowing grass. There's nothing merry about that. Not feeling the "happiness" this year.

WOW Bren. Even when you don't actually come out and say something bad about Governor Walker, you really know how to kill a celebration. I have several comments concerning your little tirade, but in the interest of keeping this a celebratory blog, I will save them for another time.

While we have had some terrible things happen this year, we are still here, we still have most of the freedoms our founding fathers gave us, and everyone in my family is healthy and happy.

Merry Christmas Bren, and a very Happy New Year!

Bren. That was a real downer.

Yes AA, I agree and to all others who can put differences aside for a day.

While I may not agree with everything that others say, I celebrate our Bill of Rights and the 1st Amendment which grants us the right and privilege to express ourselves. May our society return to an Age of Reason, where reason, rather than emotion, guides our words and actions. May our free exchange of ideas develop a greater tolerance for individuals of opposing ideas and better public policy.
