Candidates Emerge for County Clerk Race
Menomonee Falls Republican announces intent to run and Waukesha County Democratic Party has found a candidate to run.
A Menomonee Falls Republican has filed a campaign registration statement in the 2012 election against Waukesha County Clerk Kathy Nickolaus.
Kurt Heins, a young political hopeful, has posted his first campaign video on YouTube. His news release announcing his intention to run is found here. His Facebook page for his campaign is found here.
A voice message for Heins left from Patch was not immediately returned.
Meanwhile, blogs identify a candidate running for the county clerk’s seat for the Waukesha County Democratic Party. There has been a candidate identified to run and there will be an announcement in the near future, according to a party insider, who spoke on condition of anonymity.
“The party does feel confident that this is a quality candidate,” said the insider.
An election packed full of candidates would not surprise many people following intense scrutiny of the Waukesha County clerk’s office this year.
Nickolaus made national news this spring when she failed to release the City of Brookfield's results from the hotly contested state Supreme Court race between David Prosser and JoAnne Kloppenburg.

The mistake led to a state investigation into what happened on the April 6 election night. The Government Accountability Board cleared Nickolaus of criminal misconduct.
Nickolaus, in a June 2, 2011, article that appeared in The Freeman, said she would seek re-election and that she expects there to be opponents in the election.
“But I’ll work to build that confidence and trust from the electorate before I get to my re-election campaign,” Nickolaus told the Waukesha newspaper.

I'd personally like to know more about this Kurt Heins character. Will there be a follow up story on this new candidate?

Danny, I can assure you there will be follow up stories on all of the candidates. The election is a year away still, and I would be surprised if more people did not put their names in the running.

I've got $5 that says he doesn't get on the ballot.

What makes you say that, sir? You do realize that so far, within three days, Mr. Heins has been written up on here and in a front page article on the Waukesha Freeman, complete with a colored picture of him? Thus far this has proven to be an historic effort. Kathy Nickolaus is so worried that she felt the necessity to reiterate that she will be running for reelection in the article about Heins in the Freeman. If I were you, I would reconsider that snarky remark.

Has anyone actually read his press release?? It is PARODY, people. Try actually reading the links posted - and that goes for the editorial staff of the Patch as well!

Christine, I did in fact read the press release that was linked to this story. People can read it and make their own judgment call. I am merely providing the links for people to find out more information about a candidate who has filed papers looking to raise money to run for county clerk.
If anybody files paperwork in the race for county clerk, that is going to be published no matter how serious the candidate is.

I'm thinking Kathy Nikolaus didn't read his press release either or she would've made some reference to the seriousness of his campaign.
There should've been some reference as to the veracity of his press release, at the very least.
