Bomb Threat Rumors Reported at Pewaukee High School

Local high school is evacuated as authorities investigate a suspicious note.

The day after police alerted the community about rumors of a possible planned shooting at three Waukesha high school, Pewaukee High School has been evacuated after a threatening note was found in the school, according to the Lake Country Reporter.

High school students have taken to Twitter about the threat at Pewaukee, calling it a bomb threat. But Pewaukee Police Chief Ed Baumann told the Lake Country Reporter he is “confident that all students at Pewaukee High School are safe.”

Although the threat is being considered not credible, Pewaukee High School has canceled all evening activities, according to the Milwaukee Journal Sentinel.

Meanwhile, the Waukesha Police Department’s been stepping up presence at West, South and North after rumors have been spreading on social media about a possible shooting planned for Friday at the schools.

Authorities received between 15 and 20 phone calls about the rumors at Waukesha North; however, the rumors are about all three high schools. After parents and the community were alerted, the rumors have slowed down.

“We have had no increased rumors or increased reports,” said Sgt. Jerry Habanek.

The rumors were limited to the high schools and did not include the middle or elementary schools, according to Habanek.

Schools throughout Wisconsin are experiencing similar rumors, including Waukesha, Oak Creek, Menomonee Falls, Hamilton, Manitowoc, Arrowhead, Greenfield and Cudahy.

And Greendale High School was placed under a lockdown on Wednesday after a “suspicious person” was seen in the building.

C'mon kids. Don't you have anything better to do than to do bomb/shooting threats on FB or Twitter? Wow, you get an extra day off of school, good job. While you think it is a great idea, you are making parents worry (to include your own) as well as tying up police and other law enforcement from doing their jobs. Why don't you act like normal teenagers and go cruise Hwy 100.

Right on Adam. When I hear of these incidents, the first thing I think of is the someone wants a day off of school. We need to stop all these kids from texting, tweeting, twittering and FBing and stick to studying during the school day. Its also wasting time of our fine PPD who could be doing more productive things than chasing a note.

with all of the shootings and craziness happening in the world, these kids should realize that this is not a joke or laughing matter. They might think it's funny at the time but the ramifications of threatening either through notes, calls, writings on bathroom walls or school websites is something that is dealt with very severely and will follow them the rest of their lives. They don't realize that their little ha ha moment is a federal offense.

Bomb scares in Wisconsin are charged as misdemeanors. And you're right, they are not funny. I'd like to say "kids these days" but in my younger days, there were a ton of threats after Columbine. The rumors are just spread a lot faster because in my teenage days, there wasn't Facebook, texting, Twitter, etc. We just had good old-fashioned email and landlines.
