Unlike other parts of the country, southeastern Wisconsin has been spared from a major snowstorm so far this winter.
That is probably about to change.
The National Weather Service says up to 14 inches could accumulate in the area by Wednesday. A winter storm watch is in effect from Monday afternoon to Wednesday afternoon.
According to the forecast, conditions are favorable for lake-effect snow beginning tonight. Between 4 and 6 inches could fall on Monday, with more closer to Lake Michigan.
A low-pressure system will then gather strength and move in Tuesday. By the time it's all said and done on Wednesday, "the potential exists for a foot or more of total accumulation in far southeast Wisconsin," the NWS predicts.
Winter storm warnings or winter-weather advisories will likely be issued today or tonight, according to the forecast.

Ever since I saw how ill prepared people were after Hurricanes Katrina and Rita, my family is now self-reliant and prepared for most catastrophes for up to 30 days. No whining for us. We're not dependent on government.
