Adam Neylon Wins 98th Assembly District Primary
Businessman defeats Pewaukee Police Chief Ed Baumann by 30 votes in special legislative election.
Adam Neylon, a 28-year-old entrepreneur, narrowly won the special Republican primary election for the 98th Assembly District Tuesday — defeating Pewaukee Police Chief Ed Baumann by just 30 votes.
Baumann, Todd Greenwald, Matt Morzy, Neylon and Jeanne Tarantino ran in a five-way Republican race to replace Paul Farrow, who was elected to the 33rd Senate District seat in December. With no Democrat challenger in the mix, Tuesday's primary election was essentially winner take all. Neylon will be unopposed in the April 2 special election.
Neylon, who celebrated Tuesday quietly surrounded by friends and family, said he hopes to usher in a new generation of GOP leaders in Wisconsin.
"I'm excited. We worked very hard on this campaign, and I'm looking forward to working for Wisconsin," Neylon said. "I think the Republican Party needs to do a better job reaching out to the younger generation, and I'm in a good position to start that."
Baumann, who lost in a tight race, said he is unsure whether he would seek a recount of the results. He was happy with the way his staff ran his campaign.
"First and foremost, congratulations to Adam. I'm extremely happy with the people I worked with on this campaign," Baumann said. "This was something we did at a grassroots level with a group of people who weren't politicians. I think we ran an ethical and stand-up campaign."
Here are the final, unofficial results:
| 98TH ASSEMBLY DISTRICT RESULTS | ||
| Candidate | Total Votes | Percent |
| Adam Neylon | 2,003 | 38.3% |
| Ed Baumann | 1,973 | 37.8% |
| Jeanne Tarantino | 773 | 14.8% |
| Matt Morzy | 253 | 4.8% |
| Todd Greenwald | 215 | 4.1% |
| Results unofficial until canvassed |

Neylon is a 28-year-old local business owner, and he’s also logged more than five years working for U.S. Rep. Jim Sensenbrenner and state Rep. Bill Kramer. Neylon said his hybrid background as a job creator with his window cleaning business, and his experiences in the Capitol separated him from the other four candidates. Neylon said he drafted two bills that became law in the last Assembly session.
Voters in Waukesha helped Neylon advance from the primary election, giving him more than 35 percent of the vote.

Ed Baumann is a stand up guy and ran a great campaign. Matt Morzy and Todd Greenwald had their first experience with politics and I hope they stay engaged as we need YOUNG Republicans to be active.
The majority of voters in this district elected Scott Walker twice, and they elected the true conservative Republican who is most qualified to be our State Representative, Adam Neylon. Congratulations!

And neither are your backstabbing and underhanded comments appreciated. I didn't support her myself, but she lost. No need to kick someone when they are down.
Congratulations to Adam. He ran a good race and squeaked it out. Every door knock really mattered in this race.
By the way, it is..."character."

Jeanne is a class act and ran a campaign of truth and intergrity. What a shame that radio personalities were able to "campaign" against her by not taking in any callers, such as myself, that would and could have defended her. I do not begrudge Neylon his win, but I will be following his run in office to make sure he represents me and my district in truth and integrity.

"and ran a campaign of truth and intergrity." Yikes. I'm not prone to kick her while she's down, but "truth and integrity" did little to advance Mrs. Tarantino's campaign, and deservedly so.
I don't see how Neylon's anywhere near "more qualified" than Baumann but he's clearly the party's boy, and hopefully no longer just a "party boy."

N Schmidt--- As Representative Bill Kramer, who's in a leadership position as the Speaker Pro tempore states,(paraphrasing) "Adam Neylon was there when we undertook Gov. Walkers agenda to fix the fiscal mess this state was in. Adam helped write two bills that fixed the $3.6 billion deficit."
I would think to most people that is "more qualified" than Baumann, or anyone else is this race.

"N" - Neylon was not the party's boy as I am a registered Republican and know the board did not sanction any candidate. But he sure did seem to be Belling's Boy. And I agree completely with your comment about truth and integrity having little to do with advancing a campaign. That would be unheard of in this day and age of win at any cost (even to the point of dividing a party) mentality. But I don't agree that she deserved to lose because she chose not to entertain those who viciously attacked HER rather than run an honest campaign. The "good 'ole boy" system lives on, but one day we will find a true representative...God willing.

What is Adam Neylon's actual educational experience? How did he actually help to write any bills?
And to the rest of you that sat on your butt's Tuesday, shame on you!

Carl, I agree it's a shame that people sit out of any election. But, the greater shame are those who manipulate talk radio, exploit half-truths, within their own party no less, and those who believe these biased messangers without question. I quote one "prominent Waukesha politian" in saying "If I leaked information (about the opponent), it would be far worse than anyone has heard so far". I can still hold my head up high and look those people in the eye. They cannot and should not.

Adam threw a pretty good kegger at Carroll. And he rebooted Kramer's computer that one time. To me, that pales in comparison to Ed Baumann's 38 years of public service and administration but the voters have spoken. And, to his credit, Adam knocked on plenty of doors and that's always to be commended. Here's to his success in politics, and the hopes that he remembers that his constituents put him there.

Read where it says Adam worked in Bill Kramer's office. The office is located in the State Capitol. That's where they write Bills.

Keith again my question was just a simple one. What educational experience has Adam Neylon earned?
I don't think it was just or honest to avoid my question. Keith, if you don't know the answer well don't make a fool of yourself. Again. And again. And again. And again.
Oh, here it is...none. He is a window washer. Great credituals to get into public office. Maybe Bill Baumann could get a job from Adam. Of that's right, Adam doesn't ........... Keith, are you still awake? Keith?

"I'm looking forward to working for Wisconsin" A US Representative you may be some day. For now, you're running for the 98th Asssermbly.
I have a concern.
The public education system of 22,000 children in the 98th Assembly District were left out of in the cold and out of the public discussion in the primary. This should be a wake-up call for the 98th Assembly parents and educators.
Almost all the candidates showed a disconnect between someone with life experience in the private sector and legitimate issues driving our communitie's economic engine.
As retirement age skilled employees leave our major manufactures, no candidate had a clue about what's on the mind of area Presidents and CEOs. We need a technical work force to match the skills gap or the 98th will lose major employers in Sussex, Pewaukee, and Waukesha.
Not to pick on Adam, but window washing is not a skilled occupation and a 28 year old barely 10 years out of high school has no clue of the seriousness of this problem or what to do about it.
Working in Bill Kramers office was a great political experience for Adam. But perhaps serving first as an alderman, county supervisor, or school board member would have imparted the wisdom of community enrichment needed to better represent our community at the state level. Better yet, get a manufacturing job for the summer to experience what a k-12 student as a 21st century learner needs to know to earn a family supporting wage.

Steve Endlund, I have NEVER seen you at our monthly Business Leaders Coalition Meetings with these area Presidents and CEO's. The Republican Party of Waukesha County even has joint meetings with another business group, Businesses for WI. Jobs. As Neylon has, perhaps he is one up on you. And I am curious as you seem to be jumping to conclusions here. Have you ever talked one-on-one with Neylon? I seriously doubt it. You might learn something.

Sorry I can't attend those meetings with you and Adam. I don't own a business. I'm a highly skilled union tradesman in a dangerous occupation making my employer a profit. If I don't work, they don't make money.
I welcome and invite Adam to share his plan to solve the skills gap right hear on Patch.
Republicans have introduced a bill to kill trade unions this week. What's the plan to replace union apprenticeship programs Keith?

@Steve Endlund,
I understand when someone has to work and there is nothing wrong in making a profit for your employer. The meetings are scheduled early at 7am but I realize you might start work early. As I am not a legislator and have not heard about any bill to kill trade unions, perhaps you should do what people usually do......contact your Assemblyman.

No such thing as a hard working union tradesman. That's why we're getting rid of them in this state. Show me a tradesman who deserves more than $5 an hour cause I haven't seen one. Once we get Act 10 to eliminate all unions we will flourish!

At Keith Best,
I'm a conservative, pro-life, GOD fearing Christian, blue collar union worker, school board member, and community activist. Yet, I would not be welcome in the Republican Party because I'm not a business owner. That means I'm not worthy enough in Keith Best's eyes. Too bad.
Here's what I mean:
I find your condescending comment, " I understand when someone has to work and there is nothing wrong in making a profit for your employer." ASININE. Is this the message Republicans publicly broadcast through you. Keith? WOW. It's no darn wonder the party lacks diversity. Do you look down on everyone who isn't a company owner, Keith? Do all Republicians quietly say the same things you have no shame in speaking publicly, Keith?
I am absolutely appalled, Keith. Really. Seriously. I made of copy of this and will be sharing it with others. And now that the cat's out of the bag, I need to consider my voting choices more carefully.
FYI- Senate Bill 26 and Assembly Bill 15 will effectively kill the skilled trades and union apprenticeship programs. Let's hear Adam's plan now.
BTW - I don't have an Assemblyman. The office is vacant until the April election.

@Steve Endlund---you lost me there.
The Republican Party has respect for ALL workers...those that provide for themselves instead of depending on government. Almost all of the people I know in the Party are not business owners so I don't know where you are getting your information. I am not a business owner but I have worked for 35 years and continue to do so. Our Business Coalition Meetings are held on the 2nd Wednesday of the month and attract all kinds of people that work and want to know the direction of business in this state. You are welcome to attend if you can make it from 7am to 8:30am.
BTW- then contact your state senator.

Steve, as a fellow Christian, I ask you not to lump all of the other Republicans in Waukesha in with these other two men. There are those of us who would love to cross the aisle and move forward. I just want to leave you with this: "My dear brothers and sisters, take note of this: Everyone should be quick to listen, slow to speak and slow to become angry, because human anger does not produce the righteousness that God desires." James 1:19-20. I thank you for your courage to stand up to bullying name-callers. As a fellow 98th district resident, I hope to work with you on improving our district for everyone. Blessings.

Well now, Keith B., there's your problem - putting conditions on who you do and don't respect. None of us are immune to hard times and should I find out someone has been on long-time government assistance the Christian thing to do is offer MORE help. "I was a stranger and you did not invite me in, I needed clothes and you did not clothe me, I was sick and in prison and you did not look after me.’ They also will answer, ‘Lord, when did we see you hungry or thirsty or a stranger or needing clothes or sick or in prison, and did not help you?’ He will reply, ‘Truly I tell you, whatever you did not do for one of the least of these, you did not do for me.’" Matthew 25:43-45

@Keith Worst - I can tell you (and remember, I am a Republican) that I have two very hard working brothers in construction. The problem with our party is that we cannot have a healthy debate without personal attacks, name-calling, belitting comments and plain old rudeness. As Bobby Jindal so aptly stated, "Let's stop being the stupid party....and start speaking like adults."

Yolanda makes some good points here. Nothing will ever move forward and problems will never be solved if some people are only interested in bashing others - that gets all of us nowhere. And I for one hate the fact that we keep getting nowhere because only some will work together and the others keep trying to thwart the efforts of those trying to work together. How silly and immature! Also, not everyone can be a business OWNER. Believe it or not, some business owner's need people to work FOR them. If a business owner doesn't understand that perhaps they shouldn't be a business owner taking up space another potential business owner could fill and make money to spur the economy. Finally, I don't understand why we cannot separate helping those truly in need from those abusing the system - they are NOT one in the same. Please be mindful of, and think about, that esepcially during this blessed Easter season and help those truly in need!
