A Special Day for Some Special Athletes
Hundreds of Special Olympics athletes — including many from Waukesha — took part Saturday in the organization's annual Southern State Fall Sports Tournament.
Special Olympics athletes from throughout southern Wisconsin — including many from Waukesha — took part in a friendly but spirited bowling competition Saturday at the AMF Bowlero Lanes in Wauwatosa.
The event was part of the organization's Southern Fall Sports Tournament that drew more than 550 athletes, nearly 200 coaches and 300 volunteers. Athletes also took part in a volleyball tournament at the Center Court Complex in Waukesha.
Organizers say the fall tournament is just one example of how athletes further Special Olympics' mission to develop physical fitness, demonstrate courage, experience joy and participate in the sharing of gifts, skills and friendship with their families and others.
