Waukesha County Drug-Free Communities Launches Waukesha C.A.R.E.S. program.
Waukesha County Drug Free Communities (DFC) announced the launch of its Waukesha Community Alcohol Resources for Establishments and Servers (C.A.R.E.S.) Program in cooperation with the City of Waukesha Business Improvement District (BID) and the City of Waukesha Police Department.
The program is free to participants and designed to recognize and support local establishments who are actively working to prevent underage drinking and encourage healthy drinking habits among adults. Alcohol licensed establishments in the City of Waukesha can join the program by filling out an application form agreeing to check identification when selling alcohol, refusing to sell alcohol to anyone under 21 or to an intoxicated customer, and participate in Responsible Alcohol Server Training. Businesses joining the C.A.R.E.S. program will receive educational material to promote serving and selling policies and practices, free Responsible Alcohol Server Training and community-wide promotion by Waukesha County DFC.
“Downtown Waukesha is a safe and fun place to socialize, and our business community prides itself on maintaining a family-friendly environment,” said BID Executive Director, Meghan Sprager. “Parents who allow their children to visit us unsupervised should be assured that we are working together to maintain our exceptional record of not serving alcohol to minors."
Larry Nelson, County Board Supervisor and Co-Chair of DFC, said the Coalition is proud to partner with the Waukesha BID and Police Department on this project.
“By providing downtown establishments with free trainings and information, we will promote healthy drinking habits and prevent underage drinking,” he said.
